Recommendation For Hand Winch With Multiple Speeds To Lift Logs That Are Up To 3000-lbs
Question:
I am building a log arch. I would like to be able to lift 3000 Lb logs. If necessary I can obtain a 2-1 advantage by wrapping around the log and attaching the cable to a fixed spot. I ordered a Dutton-Lainson 3500 but afterward realized it was a single speed. I think it will be too slow. What do you recommend?

Expert Reply:
Because of the weight of the logs your are moving and the desire for a faster speed option, I recommend the Fulton High-Performance 2-Speed Winch with Handbrake, Item # F142430. This durable winch has a 2-speed feature (fast for quick pulls and slower for increased mechanical advantage) as well as a handbrake. It has a zinc finish and a maximum capacity of 3,700-lbs. It also works only with a cable like Item # FWC7500100 that is sold separately.
While a little more robust than you might need, I recommend going with the extra capacity for ease of use and safety as you work with large logs on your project.
