Is a Converter Box Needed for Trailer Wiring on a 2008 Ford E-350

Question:

I have a 2008 Ford E350 Super Duty. It does not have a towing package. It has a regular versus a step bumper. It does have back up sensors. I have the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver 14055 in my cart and Im good there. My question is, do I need a wiring harness with a power converter because of the back up sensors? The hitch will be used primarily to carry a bike rack. We may tow 2 or 3 times a year. Id like to go with the more simple harness without the converter unless you tell me I need one with a converter because of the back up sensors. Thanks in advance for your help.

For starters, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 14055 is an excellent option for your 2008 Ford E-350 and will work well for you. It is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver tube opening. I have attached a sample installation video on this hitch for you as well.

In regards to trailer wiring, the converter box has nothing to do with the reverse sensors on a 4-way harness. The converter box helps with power drawl on the vehicle's electrical circuit. In some cases the vehicles factory lighting circuit is not equipped to handle the added power drawl the trailer lights have which is why a converter box is needed. The converter box is not required for your E-350 therefore, I recommend using the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56020 which is a completely plug and play option. I have also attached a sample install video on this harness for you.
