Parts Needed to Complete Brake Controller & 7-Way Installation on 2017 Ford F-150
Question:
I have a 2017 Ford F-150 and I just had the oem brake controller installed in the cab and the vehicle has the 4 pin connector. I plan on pulling a trailer and using all components of a 7 pin for it. Where are the wires for the yellow, blue and black connections located on the vehicle?

You may be able to find the additional circuit wires along the driver's-side frame rail. These are often hard to find and may not be long enough to reach a 7-way. On your truck we recommend using our complete brake controller installation kit # ETBC7. This includes all of the parts you need to complete the installation of the controller and to install a 7-way (shown in the linked photo).

Basic 4-pole trailer wiring carries only lighting signals: brake, turn and running lights. No trailer brake controller can function through this type of wiring setup. Additional wiring circuits are needed.
If your brake controller were factory-installed the truck would also already have the required 7-way type trailer connector. An aftermarket brake controller installation on an F-150 that has only 4-pole wiring will also require additional components.
