How Does Trailer Wiring Work on Tow Vehicle that Has Separate Turn Signals from Stoplights
Question:
The wiring diagrams I see show the turn/brake wired together for the right and then the left side. The vehicle has two separate wires, one for the turn signal and one for the brake. If I connect them together on the vehicle, will it not screw up the vehicle lights?

The trailer lighting configuration you mentioned is very common. The solution is to use a taillight signal converter like the part # 119250KIT which is designed to accomodate this style and adapt it as needed.
If you get me the year/make/model of your vehicle I can see if there's a custom fit harness available that wouldn't require any hardwiring.
