The installation instructions for the Tow Ready Wiring harness, # 118517, are correct. The power wire does need to be routed and connected to the vehicle battery. The purpose of this connection is that it provides power for the trailer lights and virtually eliminates power draw on the sensitive vehicle tail light wiring. This in turn protects the vehicle wiring and other electrical components from damage.
