Troubleshooting Weak Trailer Brakes on 2015 Jayco X20E

Question:

I have a 2015 Jayco X20E hybrid camper. It has 7 x 1.25 inch brakes, 5 lug on 4.5inch pattern, 2200 lb Torque-Flex axles. It has 175/80 x 13 tires. The brakes are worthless! Do you have a kit to fit my application?

Before you swap out the brakes have you tried manually tightening the assemblies to get them to grab harder?

On electric drum brakes there is a star wheel at the bottoms of the assemblies that you can turn using a flat head screw driver or brake adjusting tool # W80630. Turning the wheel one way will bring the shoes closer in and turning it the other way pushes the shoes out more.

You will adjust the brakes using that wheel until there is a slight but constant drag of the shoe pads on the drum. I have included a link to a video and at about the 4:39 mark our installed begins adjusting the brakes.

Most likely the 2k Kodiak Disk Brake Kit part # K2HR2D would fit but I'd need more info like the bearing numbers out of your hub or the diameters of the spindle. If the spindle measures 1.06 where the bearings ride and 1.50 inch where the seal rides this kit will work.
