Taller Fifth Wheel Curt Hitch that Fits Factory Rail Kit of 2017 GMC Sierra 3500

Question:

I just installed my new 16k 5th wheel hitch in my 2017 GMC 3500, my problem is that the new Curt hitch sits about 5” lower than the hitch in my old truck. This only leaves me about 3” of clearance between my trailer and the top of my bed. Is there something i did wrong? Did i order the wrong hitch?

I am not sure what hitch you have, but if it's the Curt E16 part # C16515-16025 you referenced you should note that the head of this hitch is height adjustable. You just have to use the mounting holes for the side brackets that allow the head to sit as high as possible. That said this hitch sits pretty low at 11-1/2 inch to 13-1/2inch.

The Curt A16 part # C16520-16025 also fits the factory fifth wheel rail kit of your 2017 GMC Sierra long bed and is about 5 inches tall which would be about ideal for you.

Realistically you need 6 inches of clearance between the overhang of the fifth wheel trailer and the rails of the truck bed.
