Appropriate Circuit Breaker for Installation of Prodigy P2 90885 Trailer Brake Controller
Question:
Id like to install the Prodigy P2 with the ETBC7 kit in my 1999 GMC K2500 Suburban. Ive confirmed that it has all the factory wiring as shown in your install video for a 1999 Suburban. Which of the three breakers included in the ETBC7 kit would be used in this application?

Expert Reply:
The # ETBC7 brake controller installation kit for the Prodigy P2 # 90885 includes multiple circuit breakers of different current ratings to allow for use with one, two or three-axle trailers. More axles and/or more powerful brakes will require more total output power from the controller and so multiple breakers are provided.
The 40-amp breaker is always used on the controller's black operating power wire. One of the other two breakers, the 20- or 30-amp, will be used based on the number of axles and brakes. If the trailer has two to four brake assemblies then use the 20-amp breaker. If it has 6 brakes use the 30-amp.
