Weight Distribution System Recommendation for Jayco Jayflight
Question:
I have a question on weight distribution hitches. I have a 2009 Toyota highlander limited AWD with factory Tow package rated at 5000#. I have a Reese hitch part number 44670 UPC code 016118112436 purchased from Reese I believe. It has WD capacities of 750/5000. I would like purchase a WDH. Long term I anticipate pulling Trailmanor trailer however, initially I am going to rent a Jayco JayFlight trailer which owner states is a 15foot model but probably is their 19foot since that appears to be smallest on their website for 2015 currently. I am estimating my tongue weights are going to be in the 450-700# range loaded. I need a hitch that allows backing. Also we will be driving low speed 35 on switchback so need to be able to do fairly tight cornering. I would like some modest antisway capability. Looking at Reese hitches it looks like they jump from a 4-500# hitch to much heavier hitches. What would you recommend. I need something by March 23 at the latest. I am aware of the controversy of WDH with Highlanders and I am willing to take the risk after reviewing the trailer users forums. Thank you,

So does your owners manual state that you can't use a weight distribution system? If that's true there isn't a system we can safely recommend.
The problem is that if your tongue weight range will vary widely you'll have to set the system up everytime the tongue weight changes. If you are okay with that though the Reese Strait Line part # RP66083 will work well for your tongue weight range as it has a range of 400-800 lb and features only sway control on market designed to fight sway before it starts.
It allows backing if you are mainly going in a straight line but you won't be able to jacknife the trailer.
For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
