Usually the Explorer will come with either no trailer wiring or with a 4-pole flat type connector such as # C55384. Now if the round connector you mention is the same as the ones on the other end of this product (and which is shown in the linked image) then you can use this part # C55384 to give you a starting 4-pole harness which will be upgraded to a 7-way for use with the brake controller.

The actual 7-way trailer socket you will need is # 37185 and this comes in our all-inclusive brake controller install kit # ETBC7.
