5th Wheel Hitch, Install Kit and Sidewinder Pin Box for Short-Bed Ram 1500
Question:
I have a 2012 ram 1500 with a 5.5 ft box. I need a 5th wheel hitch and sidewinder for a new 26 ft camper. I need to make sure to get the right products. i need the complete hitch and the parts to mount it. Cheaper is best because Im a disabled vet and getting the Camper took most of what i had. Camper only weighs 7000 pounds do i dont need a heavy duty product, just good quality that is easy to mount and use.

We can get you set to tow your 5th wheel with your Ram short-bed.
For a base rail kit you can use kit # RP50142-58 which gives you a custom-fit for easier installation and less drilling. This kits uses frame brackets that mount to existing holes in the frame. Then for a cost-effective 5th wheel hitch you can use the Reese 16K hitch # RP30047. For an in-bed wiring harness use part # 50-97-410.
Sidewinders are selected based on the specific OEM pin box model on the trailer. The linked article will help you determine which one you can use. As an example, for the popular Lippert 1621 and 1621HD pin boxes the Sidewinder # RP34FR is the correct option. This same Sidewinder also fits in place of other specific pin boxes from Fabex and M&M.
If you need a trailer brake controller I suggest the reliable Prodigy P2 # 90885 since it is easier to install and operate than many competing models.
