Best Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch Options for a 2015 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Question:

I have a 2015 Ford F250 diesel crew cab short box truck. It has a spray in bed liner. I need to get a fifth wheel hitch and have been told I need a sliding hitch. Trailer weight is 11,000 lbs dry. what do you recommend? Also, I have heard a lot of people are having issues with the Reese 15K slider. Have you heard anything.

It is recommended to get a sliding 5th wheel hitch if you have a truck with a bed that is shorter than 8 feet but longer than 6 feet. The reason for this is so that you don't hit the cab of your truck with your trailer when you are making tight turns.

I do have a few recommendations for your 2015 Ford F-250 with a short bed. As far as the 15K Reese slider goes, you can do better. I recommend the Curt A20 # C16541. This slider offers 12" of travel. The hitch head of the A20 is one of my favorite because it has a dual-jaw design and features a pivoting. This helps to give you a nice smooth ride that limits chucking and jarring. I recommend using the Custom Base Rail Kit # RP50026-58 to mount them because it installs on pre-existing holes in the frame of your F-250.

If you are shooting for the best then I recommend checking out the Demco Hijacker 18K # DM8550022. This is an autosliding 5th wheel hitch that keeps you from getting in and out of your truck to engage and disengage the slider when taking those tight turns. It also features a double-pivot head and a single wraparound jaw that secures the king pin for a comfortable ride. This particular hitch installs in the Underbed Rails # DM8551000. When the Hijacker is removed you have a clean bed that is ready for full use.

I also recommend installing the Bargman # 50-97-410 in the bed of your F-250 if you don't already have a 7-Way located there. This helps to make connecting and disconnecting your trailer much easier.
