Best Trailer Hitch for Use with Bike Rack on a 2014 Chevrolet Impala LTZ

Question:

Thank you Conner for getting back to me! However, I am sorry I did not get back to you right away. With that being said, could you please let me know a set-up for a 2016 Honda CRV EX? Sorry to keep changing cars just trying to get the best options for my situation. Thank you again for all your help!

The best trailer hitch we have for your 2014 Chevrolet Impala LTZ is the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 36538 which is a custom fit and will not require any drilling. The Draw-Tite option is a Class II hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver tube opening. I like the Draw-Tite hitches as they do not require the use of an added support strap like the Curt hitches will. You can see how it installs using the attached video on a similar 2015 Chevrolet Impala.

Please note that you will be limited to carrying 2 bikes with this hitch as that is the maximum number of bikes that can be carried using a Class II hitch. If you are also looking for a bike rack I recommend the Swagman XTC-2 part # S64670. The Swagman XTC-2 works with a variety of different bike types and can be folded while not in use. You can see some of the other features of this rack in the review video I have attached or you.

Thank you for getting back to me. From the information you provided I take it that it is not recommended to have a 4 bike rack for my 2014 Chevy LTZ. However, is there a recommended set up for a 2015 Chevy Equinox?

The maximum number of bikes that can be carried on a Class II 1-1/4" trailer hitch receiver is 2. Since they don't make a Class III 2" trailer hitch receiver for your 2014 Chevrolet Impala to my knowledge, the maximum number of bikes you can carry on the hitch of your vehicle is 2. For your 2015 Chevy Equinox, I recommend using the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76028 which is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver tube opening that will allow for the use of a 4-bike carrier to be used. I have attached an install video of this hitch on a similar 2015 Chevy Equinox for you as well. In order to carry the 4 bikes I recommend using the Swagman XTC4 part # S64665 which is the 4 bike version of the above carrier. You can again check out some of the features in the attached review video.

No problem whatsoever. Both your 2015 Chevy Equinox and your 2016 Honda CR-V will be able to carry a 4-bike carrier with ease. For a 2016 Honda CR-V I recommend using the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame part # 75742. However, since the hitch once installed on this vehicle will be recessed more than usual, I do not recommend using the Swagman XTC4 4-Bike Rack part # S64665. This rack would only leave about a 1/4" of clearance between the vehicle while folded which is not ideal and does not leave much room for error. Instead, I recommend using the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4-Bike part # HR1400Z which will give you around 2-3" of space between the rack and vehicle while folded and will be plenty.
