The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Class III # 75673 is an excellent option for your wife's 2017 Subaru Outback. The installation of this hitch is not overly difficult, but if you don't feel comfortable doing the installation yourself, I recommend taking it to any mechanic you trust. Any mechanic will have the ability to install this hitch for you. I've attached a video of this installation to assist. It will require drilling and minor heat shield modification. The total installation time is estimated at 1 hour.
I also recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118467 which will give you an easy to install trailer wiring connection. This harness will simply connect to your factory harness located either behind the trim in the cargo area or in the spare tire compartment.
If you will be towing with this hitch receiver, I recommend the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch # BWTS10035B. This will give you two common hitch ball sizes along with the adjustability to tow many trailers level. It has a very cool stowable option to protect your shins when not in use and give a clean look to the back of your Outback. You will also need a product like part # PC3, part # e98880, or part # 63232 to secure the accessory in your 2" trailer hitch receiver.
