Shank Compatibility Between Older Reese Weight Distribution System and Newer Systems
Question:
I have an older Reese weight dist. hitch with the chain style round spring bars. Just curious about the compatibility between this head and the shank I currently use. RP66074

Expert Reply:
The Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution w Sway Control - Trunnion Bar # RP66074 will be compatible with the Reese weight distribution shank you currently have as long as it is rated for 1200 lbs tongue weight or higher.
Weight distribution system shanks are typically interchangeable because they have the holes 1-1/4 inch on center. This allows you to get the shank with the correct rise or drop needed for you to tow level and will allow you to choose a shank for a 2 x 2 receiver or a 2-1/2 x 2-1/2 inch receiver to be compatible without needing an entirely new head unit.
Let me know if you have further questions. I've attached an article to assist.
