Recommended Hub Assembly for L44649 Inner/Outer Bearings and Grease Seal with 1.25 Inner Diameter

Question:

I’m confused about what bearings and seals I need. The spindle diameter is app. 1-1/16” and where the grease seal sits the diameter is about 1-1/4”. I think both bearings are L44649–but that doesn’t match with the grease seal size. You state that a spindle with those bearings would have a grease seal with 1.50” inner diameter. I’m wanting to get hubs that will work for 13” radial tires—but don’t know which hubs I need. Thanks

If your existing hubs use the # L44649 inner and outer bearings, which do match up to the spindle measurements you provided, then the common grease seal that is used is indeed the # 10-9, which has an inner diameter of 1.500 inches.

With that being said, we do have one idler hub assembly available that uses the # L44649 inner and outer bearing, along with a grease seal that features a 1.249 inner diameter. This is with the CE Smith Trailer Hub Assembly # CE13311. This is actually a pre-greased hub assembly and it is designed for 2,700 pound axles. It has a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern, so you will want to make sure that this matches up to your existing hubs or the wheels that you are wanting to use. I have attached a great article that explains how to measure your existing bolt pattern. The hub is compatible with wheel diameters up to 14 inches.

The bearings, races, grease seal, grease cap, lug nuts, and cotter pin are all included. I have attached a short video demonstration on this product that you can also check out.

It also might be a good idea just to verify the spindle measurements you took with a digital caliper like # PTW80157, as the measurements need to be exact. This will help ensure that this particular hub assembly will fit the spindles on your trailer.
