Weight Distrobution System With Sway Control for a 2010 2WD Ram 1500 and 3500 lb 1 Axle Trailer

Question:

Hello, Can you recommend a WD hitch for my 2010 2wd Ram 1500, pulling a 3500lb GVW - 1 axel travel trailer. Trailer tongue wt is 325lbs. Something I can add the sway control to. Thanks

For most weight distribution, I recommend going all out and just purchasing a full kit with the sway control and weight distribution all together. This saves time, money, and most importantly, frustration.

You want to verify the tongue weight of your loaded trailer, which will include the weight of any cargo or gear added to the trailer, plus anything stored behind the REAR axle that you'll use during your trip. Think of this as the "Leaving today" weight. Because of the tongue weight you provided, I'm recommending systems for 300, 400 or 500 pound tongue weights to allow for potential added weight. These systems will perform as intended if 325 is your loaded weight.

If you have electric brakes on the trailer, I recommend the Reese Strait-Line System, part # RP66082. This system uses a cam system to help restrict sway and distribute the load between the tow vehicle and trailer. One of the biggest advantages of this system is how quiet it is, and that short of a little difficulty in correctly distributing the chains, is extremely easy to install and correctly align. You'll need to add a 1-1/4 inch diameter shank hitch ball to this kit. I recommend part # C40086 for a 2-5/16 inch diameter ball or part # CB28Z for a 2 inch diameter ball.

If you have surge brakes, you instead can use the Equzal-i-zer System, part # EQ37060ET. This is a straight , square bar kit that uses friction to stabilize and distribute. Without chains, the system is even easier to install and get up and going, and doesn't take much space on the trailer frame.

I've included a video demo of both systems so you can compare their performance and get an idea of how they work in practice.
