Recommended Towing Hitch Receiver and Wiring for 2011 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD

Question:

My 2011 Ford Explorer XLT 4wd doesn’t have a tow hitch receiver. Can I install towing capabilities so I can attach a 6X8 trailer to pull my side by side?

For your 2011 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76034. I've attached a video of this installation for you to check out.

For your trailer wiring, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118540. This T-One connector plugs into your Ford Explorer's wiring harness, which is located beneath the rear of your vehicle, on the passenger's side. There is no cutting or splicing required.

For a ball mount, I recommend the etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. If you prefer an adjustable ball mount, then I recommend the Curt # C45900. I've attached some videos to assist.

For that size trailer, you probably don't need a 7-way or brake controller, but let me know if you are interested in that option.
