Your 2000 Ram 2500 Automatic with 5.9L and 4.10:1 Axle ratio will give you a towing limit of 8,900 lbs with a gas engine or 12,200 lbs with a turbo diesel. To get that max capacity, I recommend the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 41923 which is rated for 12,000 lbs towing without weight distribution and 14,000 lbs with weight distribution.
