Weight Distribution Recommendation for 2017 Honda Pilot AWD Towing 3,500 lb Camper

Question:

Hi There! I have a 2017 Honda Pilot AWD with Honda Tow Package 5000 lbs TW / 500 lb Tongue. Looking at pulling a Hybrid Camper w dual axles / electric brakes around 3500 lbs TW / 400 lb tongue weight. I dont believe we would need a weight distribution unit but likely need sway control. What do you experts think we would need for safe towing? Thanks!

Any time you tow a trailer over half the weight of the capacity of the vehicle it's a good idea to use a weight distribution system. That's going to give you the safest towing experience. Your braking and handling will be much better with a WD kit.

The Reese Strait Line kit part # RP66082 would be your best option. It has a tongue weight range of 200-600 lbs and features only sway control designed to fight sway before it starts.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
