Can Ram Truck with Ram Box Bed Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer

Question:

So I have a Pullrite Super Glide 16K hitch now. I bought a new Reflection 303RLS with a gross weight of 11995 lbs. Im being told the narrower Rambox is tough to pull with. What hitch or pin replacement would you recommend?

The bed rails of the RamBox trucks are much narrower than standard truck bed rails so the only solution is to install a Sidewinder like # RP34FR on the trailer and use a fixed fifth wheel hitch in the bed of the truck. This setup raises the pivot point up higher which allows the truck to pivot under the trailer without interference.

You won't be able to use your PullRite hitch though as it slides automatically and the Sidewinders aren't compatible with that or their hitch head style.

If the Pull Rite hitch is the style that fits standard above bed rails you can use the part # RP30047 in those rails and and you'd be set.

You will need to remove the pin box of the trailer and replace it with a Sidewinder pin box. Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will first need to know what pin box you have now in order to pick out the correct one. For example, # RP34FR fits 1621 pin boxes which are the most common.

There should be a sticker or a stamping on the OEM pin box of the trailer that will list the pin box number that is on the trailer.

Once you figure out which pin box you have you can check the FAQ I attached that has a chart that shows the correct Sidewinder to get based on which pin box you have.
