All Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Behind a Motorhome
Question:
We went and bought a 2013 wrangler rubicon - 10th edition to tow instead of our grand cherekee. Can you please provide the same information you did below for the cherekee. Sorry for taking so much of your time. We aren't as worried about looks and ease of hookup as safety. For years we happily towed a 1994 wrangler with a simple bumper mount tow bar, that lifted up and remained mounted on front of jeep, behind our RV and PU into back country on hunting/fishing trips. Thanks

You are correct that there are quite a few parts necessary to flat tow your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee behind your motorhome but I'll be happy to list everything you'll need.
As you mentioned, you'll need base plates, and the Roadmaster EZ5 # RM-521440-5 is a confirmed fit for your Jeep so long as it is not an SRT-8 model, which since you listed this part I assume it is not. For a tow bar I recommend the Roadmaster Falcon 2 # RM-520 which is out most popular option due to how easy it is to hook up with its self-aligning design. You will also need safety cables # RM-643 with your tow bar.
In order to have working lights on your Jeep you will need a wiring kit. I recommend the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154 if you want to use your Grand Cherokee's lights, or you can use the Optronics Magnetic Tow Lights # TL21RK which will connect to the 4-way on your motorhome and mount on top of your Jeep for lights.
A supplemental braking system is now required in most states and is a good idea no matter what for safety reasons. The best option is going to be the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 which is a one-time install so you won't have to activate or disconnect each time you flat tow your Jeep. You will also need Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751449 when installing a braking system to ensure it functions correctly.
Finally, it is likely you will need a high-low adapter such as # RM-076 to keep your Grand Cherokee level with your tow vehicle. The adapter you need is going to depend on some measurements you'll need to take. I have added a link to a help article on high-low adapters which explains the measurements you'll need, as well as a link to our page with our selection of adapters. I've also attached links to video reviews and installs of the other aforementioned parts for you to take a look at.

One last question. Our jeep has the optional diesel engine. When I watched the video about installing the braking system I noticed it was mounted under the hood and tied into the existing vacuum system. I will pop the hood when I get a chance but thought you may know if it will work with the diesel. Thanks again.
