Sumosprings Recommendation for 2012 Chevy Silverado 3500HD Towing Travel Trailer  

Question:

I drive a 2012 Chevy Silverado 3500HD single rear wheel SRW 4x4. It is a crew cab with a 6.5 foot bed. I tow a 5th wheel trailer with a 2800#- 3000# pin weight. Although the truck does squat when hitched up, it is not excessive and I would consider it normal. The problem I’m trying to address is the severe “porpoising” I experience when hitting a dip or a bridge transition on the highway. In these situations, the truck slams down hard on the rear suspension for 2-3 cycles before settling back down. Will either of these products, the Torklift Stableloads or the Sumosprings, address this problem? I’m hoping to smooth out the ride in these scenarios. I’m also confused about the weight rating you post for your recommended Sumospring for my truck: part number SSR-207-47. Your website lists the weight rating on this part as 2500#. The Sumospring website however indicated this part number has a 1500# capacity at 50 compression. The Sumospring site does have a part number with a 2500# rating but it is a different part number. If your suspension is going up and down 2-3 times after hitting a bump you most likely need to replace the shocks of your truck. That will slow the rebound down quite a bit and should prevent the suspension from basically bouncing like you described.

For suspension enhancement the SumoSprings kit part # SSR-207-47 will provide you with an additional 1,500 lbs of spring capacity at 50 percent compression. It will not give you additional capacity. This will greatly reduce how far the suspension travels when you hit the bumps you described.
