Can the Thule Passage 3 Bike Carrier Be Used on a 2009 Volvo XC90 and Carry a Girls Bike

Can I use the Thule TH911XT to attach to the rear of my 2009 Volvo XC90 and do I need an adapter for my daughters bikes that do not have a top cross bar? If so, what adapter would I need?

Thule indicates that you can use the Thule Passage 3 Bike Carrier, # TH911XT, on your 2009 Volvo XC90 to carry 3 bikes, and you will also need a bike adapter bar, # TH982XT, for each bike that does not have a top cross bar that will keep the bike level, or close to level, when carrying them on the rack.

I would recommend using a trailer hitch and hitch mounted bike rack on this vehicle though. The reason is that the trunk mounted bike racks are hard to install and remove on these vehicles and block access to the rear of the vehicle when installed.

For your 2009 Volvo XC90, the etrailer Max-Frame Trailer Hitch, # e45KR and the Thule Camber Bike Rack, # TH9056 are great choices. Initial installation of the hitch will be a bit more time consuming, but after that the bike rack will easily slide into the hitch when needed and when in the hitch it will fold down, allowing access to the rear of the vehicle.

The same adapter bar can be used for carrying bikes that do not have a top cross bar.
