The towing capacity of your 2005 Ford Explorer Limited V8 is 3,260 lbs. The tongue weight according to your owners manual should not exceed 15%, so your absolute maximum tongue weight is 489 lbs.
With that weight on your trailer, I definitely recommend using a weight distribution system with sway control. This will give you a smoother ride and keep the crosswinds and uneven lanes from causing you to panic. I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0600 for you along with hitch ball # EQ91-00-6080. This will allow you to add a little weight to the back of your Explorer as cargo weight and handle the trailer weight as well.
