Can Weight Distribution Spring Bars be Hung from the 4th Chain Link or is the 5th Link Required
Question:
I purchased the Reese system described in the Subject box from etrailer.com. The instructions state to have not less than 5 links in the chain supporting the cams and the trunnion bars. Why is that? Will safety be sacrificed or will damage result from supporting the cams on the 4th link? Thank you.

Ideally, you will want to have 5 links in the chains on a weight distribution system that uses chains. In some special circumstances, in order for the spring bars to be level with the trailer frame, more or less links may be needed.
In order to achieve 5 links, you will probably need to adjust the head angle to be more rearward, towards the trailer. You can find the procedure on how to make this adjustment in the instructions. I have included a link to some instructions as reference.
Having more links can render the system ineffective. Less links increases the possibility that the system will bind up, bend the spring bars, and make contact with the trailers.
