Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2015 or 2016 Ford Edge Sport for Towing
Question:
I am purchasing a 2015 or 2016 Ford Edge Sport with a 2.7 turbo engine. It says it only has a 2000 pound capacity for towing. You sell a class 3 Hitch for This SUV. My question is if I put that class 3 Hitch on what what is my capacity for towing and what is the tongue weight capacity. Thank you very much.

The trailer hitch ratings are based only on the hitch itself and often can exceed the manufacturer's specified capacities. You will be limited to the lesser capacity rating of the two. The class III hitch receiver like the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75234 will be a great option giving you more accessory options. This hitch receiver is a confirmed fit for 2015-2018 Ford Edge Sport models. I recommend using the Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Trailer Hitches # 63232 for any compatible accessory.
Since you will be towing with this vehicle, you will need to stay within the manufacturers specs outlined in your owners manual.
For your trailer wiring, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118677. This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your Ford Edge's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.
For a ball mount, I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. I've attached an article to help with determining the correct fit for your trailer.
