Recommended Base Rails and Andersen Hitch for 2002 Chevy Avalanche Z71 1500

Question:

THANK YOU so much for your answer! I ended up purchasing the Andersen Hitches 3220 | Aluminum Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection 2 because it's only 35 lbs and weight is an issue for me. Can you advise me on which gooseneck ball kit for my Avalanche you would recommend? Thanks.

The Andersen Ultimate Connection 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch System with Adapter - 20,000 lbs # AM3200 can work with any standard 5th wheel base rails. There is not a custom fit for your 2002 Chevy Avalanche, so you would need to use the universal base rails # RP30035.

You will want to pay attention to your maximum towing capacity and your payload capacity as you will be close to your vehicle limits with this combination prior to loading your trailer. Any hitch other than this lightweight 65 lb hitch would most likely push your payload limits with the dry trailer tongue weight.

With the universal base rails like # RP30035, the gooseneck ball I recommend is the Curt Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Fifth Wheel Rails - 3" Offset - 25,000 lbs # 16055. The 3 inch offset will give you better clearance for your short bed truck. This will mount directly to your above bed 5th wheel rails. I've attached a video to help.
