Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 2013 GMC Sierra Towing Car Hauler

Question:

I have a 2013 Sierra 4x4 swb crew cab with the 5.3. I measured my tongue weight on my trailer with it loaded at 1120 pounds. Would the curt c17501 work for me? I have a 2” couple on my trailer with 5” channel tongue. Can you install a 2” ball on this hitch instead of the 2 5/16”? Thanks.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

Once you know your tongue weight you will want to check out the link I attached that has all of the weight distribution systems we carry. You will be able to select your tongue weight from the filters to see what would be rated for your setup.

Based on what the capacity for your truck most likely is, and the likelihood that your trailer will be rather heavy the Strait Line system part # RP66130 would be the best option. It has a tongue weight range of 800-1,500 lbs and features only sway control to work to fight sway before it starts. For a shank then you would want the part # RP54970. For a 2 inch hitch ball the part # A-90 would be what you'd need.

Since 2 inch ball couplers are normally rated for lower weights I would recommend you confirm that your coupler is rated for the weight of your trailer as you plan to tow it.

The Curt weight distribution system part # C17501 would work for a tongue weight of 1,120 lbs as it has a range of 1k to 1.5k. You'd not want to swap out the ball of that kit to a smaller ball since a 2 inch ball wouldn't have the needed capacity.
