The wheels/rims are somewhat impacted by PSI ratings but are mostly limited by maximum weight capacity and are designed to fit particular bolt patterns. For example, the Aluminum Split Spoke Wheel by HWT, Item # AM22658HWT, is designed for 16 inch tires, has a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern, and a maximum capacity of 3,580-lbs.

Where a rim is impacted by PSI ratings is by the maximum PSI rating of a rim's valve stem. If you need a higher PSI rating then you can upgrade to a higher rated valve stem. For example, if you have tires that have a 100 PSI or greater maximum pressure requirement then you could get a higher rated stem like the Americana Bolt-In Valve Stem, Item # AM20906, which is designed for 100 PSI and greater situations.

Tires like the Provider ST235/85R16 Radial Trailer Tire, Item # TTWPRG235R16, are designed for a particular function and capacity and the PSI is a component of the design. The reinforced sidewalls of the Provider have maximum effectiveness when at the maximum PSI of 110 which give this particular tire the ability to carry 4,400-lbs with a maximum speed of 81 mph.

These radial tires are specially designed for trailers to carry loads and will give you the best ride and longest life. Their thicker sidewall also means that you will need to always inflate the tires to the maximum PSI rating as indicated on the tire so that it does not get excessive heat build up. While these are the requirements for the Provider, every tire is a little different because of how they are designed and so you will see different PSI ratings.
