Weight Distribution Recommendation for a V-Nose Trailer with 970 Pound Tongue Weight

Question:

I have a 2011 XLR 23FBV Toy Hauler by Forest River. The toungue weight checked with trailor loaded minus any grey/black water was 970 pounds, so I assume I need the 1500# system. More importantly, since the trailors Vee nose covers and extends out beyond the frame will I be able to rotate the wrench to raise and lower the spring bars?

On the Blue Ox Weight Distribution System, # BXW1500, the spot where you rotate the latch to draw up/down the chains is on the outboard side of the frame. As long as the body of the trailer does not overhang the sides of the frame, there should be room to properly raise and lower the spring bars. For the amount of tongue weight you have listed, the 1,500 pound system would be the correct capacity.

This system has a top bracket that goes around the top of the frame rail. Depending on how much of the body of the trailer is covering the frame, you may not be able to install them. The center of the bracket will be 29 inches back from the center of the ball coupler. If the body of the trailer is in the way, you will have to use a different system.

If the trailer body interferes what you can do is use Strait-Line Weight Distribution System, # RP66084, and instead of the snap up brackets, use the Chain Hangers, # RP58305. These chain hangers bolt through the side of the frame (as long as the frame is 2-1/4 inches or less wide). To achieve the required amount of tension for your weight-distribution system spring bars, you will need to jack up your trailer when hooking up the weight-distribution spring bars.

I have included a link to the installation details for the Strait-Line system for you to view.
