Comparing the Weights of the B&W Companion and the Curt A20 for a 2016 Ram 3500 w/ Prep Package

Question:

What is the physical weight of this hitch? How does it compare to the Curt C16541? Preference? What is weight of Reese hitch and rails? Do you mount the rails to the hitch or truck bed first? Im concerned about weight/handling issues during installation. I have a 2016 RAM 3500 Short-Bed with factory install 5th wheel package. Thank You

The weight of the B&W Companion # BWRVK3670 that you referenced is 304 lbs shipping. The head can easily be removed from the base (just remove 2 pins) for easier loading/unloading of the 5th wheel hitch. The base alone has a shipping weight of 230 lbs and the head has a shipping weight of 74 lbs. You can subtract about 3 lbs for the shipping materials.

The Curt A20 # C16541 has a shipping weight of 230 lbs and the base compatible with your 2016 Ram 3500 with prep package (part # RP30154) has a shipping weight of 90 lbs. You would want to install the adapter first before installing the hitch on the adapter.

Both options are great and I don't have a problem recommending either one. The B&W Companion is made right here in the USA and is a little heavier, but it is also one piece. The Curt is a bit lighter with weight being distributed better between it and the adapter, but you have to keep track of both the A20 and the adapter.

If you don't mind the extra 20 lbs then I recommend the B&W purely from the standpoint of less equipment that is needed.
