Troubleshooting Thule Crossroads Foot Pack that is Not Functioning Correctly
Question:
Thule Crossroads foot pack. I can’t turn the removal key. Sprayed with Wd40 and can no llonger shift the mechanism to tighten or loosen I would leave them if it was safe. Unfortunately the WD40 has allowed the wingbars to slide Do I have to use an angle grinder and cut them off or is there some other solution

Expert Reply:
The Thule Rapid Crossroad Roof Mounted Railing Foot Pack you have looks like the cap is already open enough to use a separate allen wrench/hex tool to tighten your bars if you want to leave them in place. If not, I recommend drilling out your locks if needed and prying out the tool. The photo you attached shows a very odd angle for the removal tool so you will need to pray it out and see if the foot still functions or replace it. If all fails and the foot needs to be cut off and removed, I recommend the Replacement Foot for Thule Rapid Aero Crossroad Roof Mounted Railing Foot Pack # 753-3399-02 along with the Replacement Handle Assembly for Thule Crossroad Roof Mounted Railing Feet # 753-20064. If you want to upgrade to the new style feet, I recommend the Evo Raised Rail Feet # TH710401.
The "removal key" cannot be used unless the core is unlocked.
