Bike Rack for a 2017 Ford Edge That Does Not Impact the Park Assist Sensors
Question:
First time purchasing a bike rack and first time owning a car with back-up sensors and camera. i have a 17 ford edge, sensors are in the bumper cover i believe, and all the pictures on your site indicate that the bike tires would hang in front of sensor area. is there a solution?

I have a solution for you, but unfortunately, there isn't a good way to avoid blocking the back up sensors and rear camera. I've included an illustration of where the sensors and camera are on your 2017 Ford Edge. With the 2017 Ford Edge being a taller vehicle, a roof solution also doesn't make a lot of sense.
Since you can't get a perfectly clear view, you can try to avoid blocking as much as possible when the rack is unloaded. You simply won't be able to use the rear camera or backup sensors with bikes installed, however.
For any hitch rack, you'll need a trailer hitch receiver. I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Receiver Hitch, part # 75234 which will fit all variants of the 2017 Ford Edge. This will provide access to the most of your vehicle's capacities, and have a wide range of compatibility with bike racks and other accessories. This installation may impact the operation of the hands free liftgate.
For a rack, I recommend a platform style rack that has a smaller bar, or minimalist design. This also will make the bike rack overall lighter, making removing it between bike trips much easier.
Specifically, the Saris Freedom 2 Bike Rack, part # SA4412B is a great, compact choice for your vehicle that folds very tight, giving you more visibility when backing up. At 22.5 pounds, it's extremely easy to handle and install onto your vehicle as needed. The Freedom can adjust its wheel cradle positions and frame clamp to better fit your bikes, giving it a wide range of compatibility. It includes a hitch lock for added security.
A 4 bike variant is available as part # SA4414B, however you will need to add bike locks to this model with a cable lock like part # e98891.
I've included video reviews of the Saris Freedom and an installation of the hitch onto a 2017 Ford Edge so you can get an idea of the install process.
