Cleaning Out Vehicle Weld Nuts in Order to Install Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 75270

Question:

Do you know what size screws are necessary to install this. I have M12-1.25 x 35mm but they only go in about 1/16 of an inch then stop. I dont know if they are the right screws for this application. Any information you can provide would be greatly apprecited. Thank you!

The bolts used to install the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 75270, are M12 x 1.25 x 35mm. The problem you are having is a common one on vehicles that have seen at least one winter. The weld nuts in the vehicle frame have corrosion and/or road grime build up and you will need to clean them out before the bolts will fit.

I have included a link to a video that shows the process of cleaning out weld nuts. You will need a spray lubricant like WD-40, and a stiff wire brush, like # DW00254. Once the weld nuts are cleaned out, the bolts should thread in without issue.
