Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Mobility Scooter Carrier for 2006 Chrysler 300

Question:

I am setting up my mother in laws 2006 chrysler 300 for a mobility scooter. What hitches and racks do you recommend and do you know how much the car can handle? It’s a rather large and heavy scooter.

On your mother-in-law's 2006 Chrysler 300, there is a sticker normally on the driver's door that gives you the Gross Axle Weight Ratings (GAWR) for the front and rear axles not to be exceeded. To determine the maximum loading conditions of the vehicle, locate the statement “The combined weight ofoccupants and cargo should never exceed XXX kg or XXX lbs.” on the Tire and Loading Information placard. The combined weight of occupants, cargo/luggage and trailer tongue weight (mobility scooter and carrier) should never exceed the weight referenced there.

To give you what you need for the scooter, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76145 which is a custom fit for her vehicle. This trailer hitch receiver is rated for 675 lbs maximum tongue weight.

Then for the hitch mounted carrier, I recommend the Flint Hill Goods 29" x 49" Carrier w/ 60" Ramp - 2" Hitch - 500 lbs # FHG69ZR. This will allow you to drive the heavy scooter up the ramp (not while on the scooter) for easy loading.

I recommend using a hitch lock like # 63232 and securing the scooter with Erickson Re-Tractable Ratchet Straps w/ Push Button Releases - 1" x 10' - 400 lbs - Qty 2 # EM34415.
