Adding a 6-Pole Trailer Connector in the Bed of a 2006 GMC Sierra 2500
Question:
I have a 2006 GMC 2500. I have a 7 blade connector on my bumper. I wanted to put a 6 pin connector in the bed of my truck but Im not sure of the wiring color code on the truck side. The only thing that works on it is my right turn signal and my electric brakes.

Since your 2006 GMC Sierra has a factory 7-way trailer connector at the back of the truck, I recommend using Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck 90 Degree Wiring Harness, # 50-97-410. Since this harness has a 7-Way, you would just need an adapter, like # HM47570.
The wiring harness is a simple T-connection that installs in line with the wiring already present on the truck so you will not have to cut and splice any wiring or figure out the wiring colors and functions.
As far as wire color and function, we have determined that the yellow wire is the left turn and brakes, dark green wire is the right turn and brakes, brown wire is for the taillights, and white is the ground. if you find a light blue wire, it provides a lead for a camper shell brake light. If there is a light green wire, it is for the reverse lights.
While these colors and functions are likely, I recommend testing them with a circuit tester like # PTW2993, while someone sits in the truck and runs through the functions.
