Weight Distribution Recommendation for a 2,500 Pound 2006 Casita Trailer

Question:

I have a variation on questions you have already answered, so I apologize if Im being redundant! I have a 2006 Casita weighing about 2500 lbs empty. I have the Valley Industries Sway Bar control system installed on the Casita. I will be pulling it with an F350 dually - so I am told sway control is all I need???? BUT, I also will tow with a 2005 Unlimited Rubicon long wheel base that already has a factory Mopar Class III hitch installed and Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller. Do I need to upgrade the hitch for sway control or am I ok with just the Sway Bar? What damage can be done if I dont get the weight distribution hitch? Is there an economical way to resolve this, if the Sway Bar is insufficient? Thanks, this is driving me crazy!

No worries, I will be happy to get this sorted out for you. First, even though your trailer does not weigh very much and you will be towing it with 1 large vehicle and 1 medium vehicle, there are still advantages to weight distribution. Even your larger Ford F-350 can experience rear end sag, decrease in steering, traction, and braking. Having weight distribution will minimize these issues especially on the Jeep.

For either of the vehicles, you will just need a simple system that will accept the sway control bar you already have. Take a look at the Reese Round Bar Weight Distribution Kit, # RP67509. This system comes with everything you will need, except a properly sized ball, to add weight distribution. For a ball, you can use # 19286 (2-5/16 inch diameter) or # A-90 (2 inch diameter).

I have included a link to our FAQ article on weight distribution and sway control for you to view.
