For your 2016 Fiat 500, I recommend adding a trailer hitch for easy, quick loading and unloading of your additional cargo. With the cargo at a lower height, it will be easier to load than a roof solution, and overall be more economical of a solution than a roof mounted system.
For a hitch, I recommend the Curt Class I, part # C11363 for a non-Abarth model and the Curt Custom Fit Class I, part # C11347 for Abarth models.
I've included videos of both showing their no-drill, no cut installation process so you can get familiar with it prior to ordering. Additionally, I've added our trailer hitch installation guide to help your install go as smoothly as possible.
With the Curt hitches, you'll need to use a support strap, part # 18050 to keep in line with Curt's warranty requirements.
Prior to loading or using an accessory, you'll want to be sure and verify your overall towing capacity and vehicle weight capacity with your owner's manual or manufacturer.
For a cargo carrier, you'll want to make sure that you have a Class I compatible accessory. Both of these include a stop which will restrict the particular accessories you can equip to the hitch. Unfortunately the Yakima EXO Swing Away Enclosed Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches # Y62VR that you were looking at isn't a compatible kit for a Class I. Additionally, you'll only be able to use a 2-bike carrier compatible with Class I carriers if you ever need one.
Instead, I recommend the Curt 19 x 47 carrier, part # C18110, as a great option for your Fiat. This carrier will mount directly into your new Class I receiver, and at 47 inches wide, shouldn't block your tail lights. This carrier weighs 30 pounds.
I've included video reviews of all of these parts so you can see their performance in action and make the best choice for your vehicle and needs.
