Recommended Landing Gear for Nash 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

Hi, according to S-C the only difference between the LG-1and the LG-3 is the motor. The gear box and other components are identical. The difference in price when the motors are purchased separately is about $. Yet, the price for the LG-3 is $$ more than the LG-1. What gives? Also, do you have a specific recommendation for a reliable landing gear unit? My trailer is a small Nash 5th wheel GVWR 7000 lbs, hitch wt dry 850 lbs. My original equipment Lippert only lasted 5 years and never worked great. Thanks

Expert Reply:

The # LG-1 is rated for 5,500 lbs and the # LG-3 is rated for 6,500 lbs, so they are similar yet there is a 1,000 lb capacity difference. That as well as the motor will account for the cost differences.

For your Nash 5th wheel GVWR 7000 lbs, I recommend the Stromberg Carlson Electric Landing Gear Set - Weld On - 34-7/8" Lift - 5,500 lbs # LG-1. You may also be interested in the spring loaded pins # LG-119113.
