Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch to Use with a 2018 Chevy Silverado 3500 with Short Bed and Prep Package
Question:
I have a 2018 Chevy Silverado 3500 single rear wheel short bed truck with the Gooseneck/5 wheel Prep Package on it. I just purchased a used 2015 Evergreen Lifestyle LS36FW 5th wheel travel trailer. Which hitches should I choose from for this set up? Thanks,

The 5th wheel hitch that I recommend using with your 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 short bed with the prep package is the Demco Hijacker Autosliding 5th wheel hitch. This comes in an 18K # DM8550034 or 21K # DM8550035 version and installs in your truck bed using the Rail Adapter # DM6194. Both options are the exact same so you will just want to choose one that is rated for at least 2,000 lbs more than what the GVWR of your trailer is for the sake of safety.
I like to recommend the Hijacker because it allows you to remain in the cab of your truck when you have tight turning situations as opposed to having to get out and back in your truck multiple times with to disengage and engage the sliding feature on a standard sliding hitch.
Some additional features that put the Hijacker above everything else is the wraparound jaw with the 3/4" locking bar. This setup keeps your king pin snug to the jaw so that there is less rattle and movement. When you couple that with the double pivoting hitch head you get a great system that reduces the amount of chucking and jarring that you feel when you take off and slow down.
Please note that this 5th wheel hitch is not compatible with a Sidewinder or Revolution pin box and requires a locking plate for Glide Ride, Mor Ryde, Trailair Tri Glide, Trailair Flexair, Rota Flex, and 5th Airborne pin boxes.
I have attached a video of this hitch being installed on a 2017 Ram 3500 so you can get an idea of how it works.
