Fifth Wheel Trailer to Gooseneck Hitch Adapter for a 2008 Dodge Ram and 2008 Keystone Cougar

Question:

What hitch should I use to adapt my 2008 Keystone Couger 316QBS to a gooseneck hitch? I will be pulling it with a 2008 Dodge Mega-cab dually. Do I need an offset adapter, what height does it need to be? Any help would be great.

What you are looking for is a 5th wheel trailer to gooseneck hitch adapter. We have several models and to determine what height you will need you will need to take one measurement. Back the truck up as if you where going to hitch up to the trailer. Make sure both truck and trailer are on level ground. Measure from the top of the gooseneck ball to the bottom of the trailer pin box to determine the height of the adpater you will need.

If your 2008 Dodge Ram has a short bed, I recommend using an adpater with an offset like # AM3139. This hitch is height adjustable from 11-3/4 inches to 14-3/4 inches and has an 8 inch offset. It has a 24,000 pound gross trailer weight capacity and 6,000 pound pin weight capacity.

If the truck is a long bed, then go with # AM3100, which has the same specs but without the offset. For either hitch, I recommend adding the safety chains, # AM3109, which are required in many states. Also, if the trailer has an extended pin box, it can be no longer than 24 inches (measured diagonally) in order to use either adapter.
