Solution for Transporting Waste Cart Between Tow Vehicle and Trailer

Question:

We tow a Passport 289RL Ultralite with Dodge 1500 crewcab. We have a 40# “blue boy” but no room in bed of truck to carry it. No back of trailer hitch exists. I think the bike rack might be solution If I mount your rack over propane tanks and use an aluminum 2” receiver cargo platform, the Blue boy could be strapped to cargo platform. Would that work? Has anyone purchased it for that purpose?

I may have a solution for you, however the Stromberg Carlson Bike Bunk Trailer-Mounted Bike Rack Carrier # CC-275 referenced in your question is designed only to hold a 2 inch, RV approved bike rack. I cannot recommend using this for any other application as it will likely void the manufacturer warranty and may not be safe.

I instead recommend taking a look at the Stromberg Carlson Trailer Tray Cargo Carrier # CC-255. This has a similar design to the bike rack carrier you were looking at but is more suited for what you are looking to do. It mounts to the trailer's A-frame with adjustable supports and features a cargo carrier for securing down extra gear. The tray measures 32 inches long and 20 inches wide. It has a weight capacity of 300 pounds.

I have attached a short video demonstration on this carrier so you can get a better look at its design and features to see if it will work for you.

You can use ratchet tie-down straps like the Erikson # E01418 to secure your waste cart to the tray.
