Can Shorter Slide Topper be Installed for Clearance?

Question:

I am looking to purchase a slide out topper. The flange to flange distance box width is 83.5 inches. Under normal circumstances I know this would be the 7.5 foot topper. My issue is on one side I only have 2.75 inches of clearance between the edge of the flange and my main awning arm. This will definitely cause a problem with the bar that sticks out from the slide out. Would you recommend I go with a 7 foot topper? My flanges are almost 5 inches on each side. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Since you need 6 inches of clearance and only have 2.75 inches, there's no reason you couldn't simply use the shorter, 7 foot slide topper # LCV000168105. The trade-off, as you're undoubtedly aware, is that the 7 foot topper is not going to give your slide room full coverage, but you'll still have most of it covered.

I've added a link to a video review of this topper for you to take a look at.
