Troubleshooting Prodigy P3 Brake Controller 90195 Installation in 2017 Ford Flex
Question:
Hello I bought the P3 brake controller kit that had the plug and play wire harness from you @ etrailer I went to install it this week end and when I plugged it in the brake controller light up fine so I unplugged the controller from the adapter wire and proceeded to mount the controller after I mounted the controller I plugged it back in and it didn’t work I removed the adapter to test the car plug for power and there is no power at the plug anymore Then I checked the fuse and even replaced the fuse under the dash that the owners manual says is for the controller and still no power My question is will the installation of your brake controller void my warranty Second do you have any idea why there is no power?

It sounds like you installed your Prodigy P3 brake controller # 90195 using the quick-connect wiring adapter # 22292 which is all that is needed to install the P3 in a Flex that came from the factory with a 7-way connector. I think your Flex may have simply blown a fuse.
When you test the contacts in the connection port there should be two that show power. One contact should have 12V power all the time; the other should have power ONLY when the brake pedal is pressed. The always-on contact is the one that delivers operating power to the controller. This power circuit has to be protected with a fuse or relay so chances are that needs to be replaced.
According to page 229 of the online owner's manual for the 2017 Flex the relay that protects the trailer brake controller is a 30-amp unit in position 3 in the power distribution box under the hood.
Installing a trailer brake controller will not void the warranty on your new vehicle. Your 2017 Ford Flex is protected by the Federal Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act. The Act states that if something breaks on your vehicle and you take it in for warranty repair, the dealer must honor your warranty unless whatever modifications you have added to your vehicle actually caused the problem in question.
