Trailer Wheel and Tire Recommendation to Replace 7.00-15LT with 5 on 4-1/2 inch Bolt Pattern

Question:

I need to replace tires and rims on a tandem utility trailer. The current current tires are 7.00 15LT on a 5 on 4.5 rim. Can I replace these with ST205 75R 15? Please advise

Expert Reply:

Size 7.00-15 is actually a currently used tire size. It is a light truck tire. Light truck tires are sometimes used on RVs and trailers (as long as the LT is at the end of the size). This size tire is rated for 2,402 pounds at 70 psi. The overall diameter is 29.4 inches and the width is 7.8 inches. It fits 15" rims.

By comparison, an ST205/75-15 # LHAW121 is rated lower at 2,150-lb max load at 65 psi. And it is wider at 8 inches, but shorter at 27.1 inches.

And the other option, an ST225/75-15, # A225R645WM is rated a little higher at 2,540 pounds at 65 psi. it is 8.78 inches wide and 28.31 inches tall.
