Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for Revolution Pin Box on 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel with 5-1/2 Foot Bed
Question:
I am buying a 2015 Ram 1500 ecodiesel crew cab 5 1/2 box. It already has a gooseneck ball type hitch in it Brand unknown. So I want to install a regular 5th wheel hitch. looked up the Curt E16 C16116 and looks like it will work with the revolution on my Rockwood 8244WS. Does that make sence or is there a easier better choice? Also could it be possable to use the frame attachment brackets that are already there to mount the new hitch? Thanks Much

Expert Reply:
For your 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Crew Cab with 5-1/2 foot bed, the underbed gooseneck hitch will need to be removed in order to use a 5th wheel hitch with a Revolution pin box. The reasoning is that there is not a gooseneck to 5th wheel hitch conversion that will work with the Revolution pin box due to the rotating turret on the pin box. There is too much movement for adapters to work well.
So, for your application, I recommend the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit - Carbide Finish # C16444-204 which will install in the same location on your frame as the underbed gooseneck (that is why you can't have both). The E16 # C16115 will work with your Rockwood 8244WS when used in combination with Wedge # C16991.
You may also want to consider the Curt wiring harness # C56000 which will connect to your factory wiring and give you a 2nd working 7-way trailer connector in the bed of your truck for easy access connection and a clean look.
