Will Hitch Require the Installation of a new Hands Free Liftgate Sensor on 2017 Ford Escape?

Question:

Hi, Im wanting to add a tow package to my 2017 Escape. According to the dealership I will NEED to get another tailgate sensor. Is this the case? Will the tow package only limit the sensor area or will it actually cause the tailgate to lift while driving down the road? Thanks for the help

The hands-free liftgate sensor you currently have will still work with an aftermarket hitch on your 2017 Ford Escape, though operation may be limited to the sensor's positioned on the sides of the vehicle near the exhaust pipes. I recommend the Draw-Tite # 75758, which is a confirmed fit and has a towing capacity of 4,500 lbs and tongue weight capacity of 675 lbs. With over 250 reviews from our customers it has gotten extremely high reviews, and a number have commented on its compatibility with the sensor.

If you are going to be towing you'll need to add a 4-way connector # C56320 and I also recommend checking out Ball Mount Kit # 989900, which may fulfill your towing needs in one tidy package; two ball mounts - one with a 3/4” rise or 2” drop and the other with a 2-3/4” rise or 4” drop - a 1-7/8” hitch ball, a 2” hitch ball, and a pin and clip. You can use the link to the help article on ball mounts I've added to determine if this kit will give you the correct amount of drop or rise.

I've also attached links to a video install of the Draw-Tite, a review of the wiring harness and ball mount kit, as well as a link to our page with each of our ball mounts.
