Will Thule Outbound Roof Bag # TH868 Fit 2010 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen w/ Factory Side Rails

Question:

Can you please tell me if this would work or has ever been used to the best of your knowledge on a 10 VW Jetta Sportwagen? We have two side bars on the roof but no permanent rack system and no sunroof. I think it would be a good way to travel and store clothes, pillows, blankets, shoes, etc. Thank you!

The Thule Outbound Roof Bag # TH868, is not a vehicle specific fit item. It will fit vehicles that have factory side rails, crossbars, aftermarket roof rack or roof baskets. You can attach the roof bag to just the side rails on your 2010 Jetta Sportwagen, but I recommend installing crossbars like the Thule WingBars, part # TH711200 in silver or # TH711220 in black along with the Evo raised rail feet # TH710401. The bag will attach to the Thule crossbars and the factory side rails which will help keep the bag from going back and forth during braking and acceleration.

If a roof bag is sitting directly on the roof, there is a chance the vehicle paint could be scratched. I would recommend washing the car and making sure the bottom of the roof bag is clean before attaching it to the vehicle. Also, applying a coat of wax to the vehicle paint will also help prevent scratching. You might also consider a roof pad like the # RL100650.

You will want to make sure not to exceed the vehicles roof load capacity as stated in the vehicle owners manual.
