Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller Installation in 2014 Ram 2500 with Factory Controller
Question:
My 2014 Ram 2500 has a factory built in brake controller. It has basically stopped working it worked fine and all the sudden it will not apply or barely applies the trailer brakes. My question is if I order a P3 and the correct cable once installed will it over ride the built in factory system? Or do I need to do something special to make it work correctly? I was not thrilled with the factory system at the beginning but it worked, now it’s having issues I’d rather have a P3 again.

You have plenty of company among other vehicle owners who tried a factory trailer brake controller and came back to the predictable and reliable performance of their Prodigy, such as the P3 # 90195 or the P2 # 90885.
You will use wiring adapter # 3021-P to connect the Prodigy controller (or any other Tekonsha model) and the process for installing this is addressed in the linked article. The Prodigy will work as soon as installed and the article explains how to remove the resulting warning message on the instrument cluster.
